Cail Mass: Resistance

Deoch 213, 10th Moon, 4th Sun    ((8/4/2025))

I have been lax in my sermons as of late, but I feel particularly inspired today. We all know Cail as the God of Nature and Harmony. Some of late have however confused his tendency for peace as a love of passivity. But, there is an aspect of nature that many overlook. It is a major aspect of Cail. I speak of resistance. Defiance. It is an aspect one can observe in nature at all points. The rabbit, cornered by the fox. A son, driven to rebel against his father's expectations. They do not simply yield to their fates, but fight back against them. On Cail's path, we do of course strive for peace. But in this peace, there must be balance.

A visitor to the temple, Vilata, said something quite profound to me recently that gave me something to think about: there can be peace in balance, but there is not always balance in peace. One need only look at the town in which Cail's temple is located: Undine. Throughout its history, it has clashed with the Kingdom of Loures. While the conflict is not hot at the moment, the scales of power are imbalanced. Peace, but one that breeds resentment. Like a wild animal, Undine seeks to be free to live its own life, but Loures, like a farmer, seeks to tame this wild beast and put it into its pasture with the other animals it has broken. While it has successfully caged it, the spirit of resistance burns brighter as time passes. I use Undine as an example to illustrate a point: When there is gross imbalance, there cannot be lasting harmony. Weather it be in the truly natural world, or in the man-made world of politics.

With the power of resistance, embodied in Cail, we can fight to restore balance. Which runs very counter to the idea that many have of Cail and his followers of being passive. Cail is a mighty glacier. He may not move fast, but in his wake, the world is forever shaped. In short: Passivity is not balance and will not lead to true peace. Cail is naturally strong, and he expects his followers to use their strength to persevere in the face of adversity. Thank you for lending me your ears. May we all walk with Cail's grace in pursuit of true Harmony.

By Cail's Grace,

-Nadja Spellweave, Priestess of Cail
